October 4, 2026: We are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden loss of cherished WTGS member Birgitte Bischoff Ebbesen. Our thoughts are with Birgitte’s family, friends, and colleagues as they process this loss.

Birgitte was a devoted champion of humanitarian action, with endeavors spanning disaster response, refugee response, and most recently as the Regional Director for Europe at the International Federation of Red Cross. A fierce advocate for humanitarian actors worldwide, Birgitte was convinced that a safer, better-connected world is possible when we lead with vision, kindness, and integrity—qualities central to her leadership, and ones we should all aspire to in our own work.

Birgitte joined WTGS last year to ground integrated security in understanding how interconnected challenges shape long-term outcomes. 

We will be forever grateful for this time getting to know Birgitte, not just as a network, but as a group of dear and burgeoning friends. We encourage you to read IFRC's moving tribute to Birgitte's resounding and lasting impact.
